As a part of the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM), MTWG aims at boosting regional cooperation and technological exchange. Virtually hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the meeting was attended by delegations from 10 ASEAN Member States, particularly, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam as well as representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other strategic partners.
IMO requested for continued cooperation with respect to the goals and aims of the MEPSEAS project and updated the meeting on the progress of the National Train-Implement Courses and the implementation of the high priority environmental conventions. IMO updated the meeting that due to the Covid-19 pandemic the operations of the project have switched to virtual delivery and the countries have agreed to the new approach. The meeting restated their commitment to enhance strategic partnership through effective implementation of global marine treaties and agreed to continue to act as Project Steering Committee (PSCOM) and to keep the MEPSEAS on the MTWG agenda until its completion as well as provide support as required.
