Held at the Cambodia Maritime Institute, the focus of the training was on how to effectively implement MARPOL Annex V and the objective to deliver the tools of implementation was successfully met.
Participants, who were selected by the Cambodian Government, are either directly involved in the drafting process of national legislation related to MARPOL Annex V or are involved during the public participation process. Consequently, the knowledge gained by the participants during this national training is applied through their comments and inputs on the draft legislation.
The participants gained better understanding of the issues concerning pollution of the marine environment, how this impacts Cambodia's socio-economic development and the need to transpose the provisions of the Convention into national legislation. The attendees will continue to provide assistance in the drafting of the MARPOL Annex V legislation.
